The Best Practice Guidelines Module is a source for nurses in all domains of practice to maximize their leadership potential. The module is based on the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario’s (RNAO) Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs). The BPG on Developing and Sustaining Nursing Leadership were developed to identify and describe:

1. leadership practices that result in healthy outcomes for nurses, patients/clients, organizations and systems;
2. system resources that support effective leadership practices;
3. organizational culture, values and resources that support effective leadership practices;
4. personal resources that support effective leadership practices; and
5. anticipated outcomes of effective nursing leadership.

A total of seven evidence-based recommendations have been developed. The recommendations are statements of what leaders do, or how they behave in leadership situations.

The contents of this module include five case studies accompanied with questions, the summary of recommendations, and other useful additional resources. To begin, click on a case study and then read the recommendations that correspond to help you answer the posed questions.
