Critical Care Nursing

Critical care nurses focus on the human response to life threatening problems in acutely and critically ill clients. They practice in a variety of settings where clients need complex, assessment, therapy, interventions and continuous nursing care. This nursing specialty relies upon a specialized body of knowledge, skills, and experience to provide care to clients and families and create environments that are healing, humane, and caring. They often work in hospital settings such as intensive care units, progressive care units, recovery rooms, cardiac care units, telemetry units, and emergency departments. They can also be found in nursing schools, outpatient surgery centres and clinics, home healthcare, managed care organizations, nursing schools, and outpatient surgery centers and clinics.

For registered nurses, the Canadian Nurses Association offers the following certification credential: CCCN(C) - Certified Nurse in Critical Care Canada
