Bonnie Sparrow BNSc, RN(EC)
Bonnie Sparrow, a registered nurse since 1973, graduated from Queen’s University as a primary care nurse practitioner in 1999. She has been employed with the Rural Kingston Primary Care Network since 2000 where she works in a multidisciplinary team environment in Sydenham Ontario with 3 family physicians, a registered nurse, support staff and a visiting rural mental health team. She manages both episodic and chronic illnesses for patients of all ages and co-facilitates diabetes education programs with the registered dietitian in the Frontenac Diabetes Education Program. She has a particular interest and expertise in women’s health completing a Millennium Fellowship (sponsored by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada) with her physician colleagues at Queen’s University. Bonnie has been appointed to the RN(EC) Staff through the Department of Family Medicine at the Kingston General and Hotel Dieu hospitals since 2003. She also holds an appointment of Lecturer in the Adjunct staff in the School of Nursing within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University and acts as a preceptor for basic RN and NP students.
She has held a variety of leadership roles in her professional nursing organization (RNAO) at the board, chapter and interest group level. She served for many years on the executive and is a past chair of NPAO. She also is a current member of the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Educators Section, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (Associate RN) and the Mack Alumni Association.
